HSBC SVNS Series to debut in New York
The announcement comes as anticipation builds ahead of the new-look HSBC SVNS 2026 series kicking off in Dubai on 29-30 November. With star power, gender equity and global representation to the fore, across the season the world’s top eight men’s and women’s teams will showcase the skill, speed, and intensity of Rugby’s Olympic discipline, featuring the fittest and fastest rugby athletes on the planet.
An iconic destination for HSBC SVNS, New York will provide a fitting backdrop for the final round of the regular season, ahead of the HSBC World Championships, which takes place in Hong Kong, Valladolid (Spain) and Bordeaux (France).
The journey to LA28 and beyond
With World Rugby committed to growing rugby’s audience share in strategically important cities on the road to the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games and historic men’s and women’s Rugby World Cups in the US in 2031 and 2033 respectively, the selection of New York represents another golden opportunity to see the stars of sevens playing the sport’s most dynamic and rapid format.
Across the country, the sport’s popularity is surging, drawing record-breaking crowds to marquee matches such as Ireland v New Zealand at Chicago’s Soldier Field, USA v England in Washington, D.C. and the Women's USA Eagles showdown against Canada in Kansas City.
As rugby builds momentum toward LA2028, SVNS remains central to shaping the sport’s future. The series has already propelled more than 50 women’s players onto the global stage at Women’s Rugby World Cup 2025, establishing itself as a launchpad for rugby’s brightest stars and the next generation of Olympians such as Ilona Maher and HSBC SVNS Rookie of the Year 2025, Nia Toliver.
