A physical therapy program dedicated to providing optimal care for both surgical and non-surgical patients has been established at Saginaw Valley Neurosurgery.  A major concern for many physicians and surgeons is that while physical therapy is a proven means of providing relief of pain and restoration of function the treatment interventions can vary on a wide scale depending on the therapist that is providing the care.

Physical Therapy guidelines for post surgical back patients have been developed in a collaborative effort between surgeons and the physical therapist at Saginaw Valley Neurosurgery.  Physical therapy intervention for these post surgical patients facilitates the healing process following surgery and sets the foundation for functional restoration while ensuring that the integrity of the surgical repair/procedure is not compromised.  Patients can thus be confident that they will be receiving high quality physical therapy care which is consistent with the vision of the surgeons.

Physical therapy is also an effective treatment option for those patients who are not necessarily surgical candidates.  Following an initial evaluation a plan of care that is patient specific is designed to address the subjective complaints and objective deficits of the patient.  The plan of care is modified or adjusted when needed to ensure that patient goals are met.
